IL-10 Debate: Will Brad Schneider even pretend to tell the truth tonight?

November 1, 2016

Tonight Bob Dold and Brad Schneider will debate on Chicago Tonight at 7pm CT, giving Illinois’ 10th District voters one more chance to watch Dold wipe the floor with a far less knowledgeable and clearly partisan Schneider. But the real story of the campaign has been Schneider’s willingness to say anything he thinks will get him back to Washington, no matter how misleading – or outright false – it is. A few examples:

  • Schneider originally promised to oppose the nuclear deal with Iran, only to later flip-flop when faced with a serious primary challenge. Schneider now says he is behind it “100%.”
  • Schneider has consistently misled voters about Dold’s positions, even prompting a nearly unheard of public rebuke from the Human Rights Campaign for his lies.
  • Schneider consistently talks about bipartisanship, though he voted with Democratic leadership nearly 90% of the time when he was in Congress. In contrast, Bob Dold has been consistently named one of the most independent members of Congress.
  • Schneider still refuses to release his full household tax returns, even though he continues to say he’s being fully transparent. Schneider is being too cute by half by releasing his personal returns while refusing to be fully transparent with his complete household records.

NRCC Comment: “Clearly Brad Schneider cares far more about getting back to Washington than he does about telling the truth. Luckily, 10th District voters can trust Bob Dold to continue to be an independent voice for them in Washington.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
