NRCC Weekly Rundown: NRCC hits CO-06 challenger w/ radio ad, Ashford is #ReadyForRetirement, Kuster gets her lunch eaten, and more!

December 18, 2015

run downHo. Ho. Ho.

And here’s your Christmas Edition of the NRCC Weekly Rundown:

CO-06:  The NRCC launched a radio ad hitting Morgan Carroll for wanting to bring terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to Colorado.  Probably not the best campaign strategy out there, but you do you, Morgan.

NY-03: Steve Israel remains on top of the entire New York State Congressional Delegation by once again locking down the top spot in terms of ineffectiveness in Congress. Congrats, Mr. Israel.

NE-02:  Brad Ashford sure seems #ReadyForHillary.  Despite representing a Republican district, Ashford gave her a full-throated endorsement.  Is Ashford also #ReadyForRetirement?

NY-01: Anna Throne-Holst was screaming on the need to prevent terrorists from obtaining firearms.  Lee Zeldin introduced a bill to do just that and suddenly Anna is shy.  Cat got your tongue, Anna?

NH-02:  Annie Kuster got her lunch eaten by the New Hampshire Union Leader Editorial Board for being clueless when it comes to that whole “being a U.S. Representative” thing.  Move over, Alicia Silverstone.

CO-06: The DCCC stooped to a new low by saying U.S. Marine and Combat Action Ribbon recipient Mike Coffman lacked a “backbone.”  Stay classy, DCCC.

MI-01: Lon Johnson, who lives in Detroit and is running for Congress hundreds of miles away in MI-01, doesn’t seem to be really liked up there.  Only 14 percent of his campaign contributions are from the district.  This.

FL-26:  Annette Taddeo suddenly seems spooked at the thought of a Democratic primary.  She’s now touting the endorsement of ultra-liberal members of Congress…in a moderate district.  Really?

News and Notes:

Katko: Congress will probe terror watch list after San Bernardino massacre“These examples raise serious questions about the methodology used to identify potential terrorist threats and appropriately place individuals on terrorist watch lists,” Katko said. “I am deeply concerned that we are failing to identify the real and current threats, while placing innocent Americans on lists that restrict their freedom of movement and travel.” READ

Valley Democrats frustrated with national party leaders running local campaignsSeveral prominent Democrats from across the central and southern stretches of the San Joaquin Valley are frustrated with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, saying the organization is more a hindrance than a help in winning local elections. The National Republican Congressional Committee – the DCCC’s Washington, D.C., counterpart – is watching the spectacle with glee, firing off snarky emails with each Democratic Party move in the 21st District. One sentence in a news release on Huerta’s possible candidacy starts, “After four high-profile rejections …” READ

McSally: Obama Admin Continuing With “Weak and Ineffective Military Approach” To ISISLast week, I participated in a two hour classified discussion with Pentagon officials about the Command and Control and Rules of Engagement. Their responses only validated my concerns of a weak and ineffective military approach. I have been calling on the Administration to completely revamp its military strategy and hoped President Obama’s visit to the Pentagon today was the start of something new. READ

Hurd urges changes to Visa Waiver Program
Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas), a former CIA officer, said the European allies participating in the Visa Waiver Program with the United States are not disclosing full information on travelers. “Many of them have signed agreements with us saying that they will share terrorist watch-list data,” Hurd said in the weekly Republican address on Dec. 12.
