NRCC Weekly Rundown: New TV ads, Obamacare meltdown, Pelosi’s Super PAC abandons Sleazy Randy Perkins, and more!

October 28, 2016

run-down

And here’s this week’s edition of the NRCC Weekly Rundown:

National: The NRCC is up with new TV ads in CA-24, CA-25, CO-06, FL-07, FL-18, FL-26, IA-01, IN-09, MI-01, MN-02, MN-03, NE-02, two ads in NV-03, NV-04, NY-19, NY-22, NY-24, TX-23, VA-10, and a new radio ad in VA-10.

National: The Obama administration confirmed this week that Obamacare premiums were rising an average of 25% nationally in 2017. Also notable, was the revelation that 1 in 5 consumers would only be able to choose plans from a single insurer after insurers across the country fled from the exchanges.

CA-21: Emilio Huerta revealed how clueless he is, telling the Los Angeles Times that he didn’t have a plan for addressing the Central Valley’s water crisis. Perhaps this is the reason Huerta, the handpicked candidate of Washington Democrats, was opposed by local activists.

FL-18: Things just keep getting worse for sleazy disaster profiteer Randy Perkins. This week, after a bizarre debate performance in which he suggested literally printing money to solve our economic problems, Perkins was abandoned by Nancy Pelosi’s super PAC, House Majority PAC.

IA-03: Jim Mower had a really bad debate. Not only did Mowrer deny that the death tax, a key issue for Iowa farmers, exists, he then went on to refuse to support Sarah’s Law, a bipartisan bill championed by Rep. David Young, that is widely supported by Iowans.

MN-02: As news hit of skyrocketing Obamacare premiums across the country, Angie Craig continued to call for expanding the failed law. Meanwhile, the former medical device industry executive was called out by Minnesota veterans for running ads touting her work with vets, despite her company’s record of ripping them off.

MN-08: Rick Nolan is feeling the heat, as a new poll from KSTP showed him trailing Republican Stewart Mills. After dodging tough questions at Sunday’s debate, Nolan admitted that Obamacare has failed to make health care affordable, but didn’t back off of his support for the law.

NY-22: The pressure of the campaign is really getting to Kim Myers. First, after a tracker asked why her car had a Pennsylvania license plate, Myers’ daughter assaulted him. Then news came out that Myers’ big brother funneled $300,000 to Nancy Pelosi’s Super PAC in an effort to boost Myers’ failing campaign.

PA-08: After watching a political ally, disgraced former Attorney General Kathleen Kane, be sentenced to prison on corruption charges, Steve Santarsiero continued to shirk his duties in Harrisburg. Santarsiero skipped votes on bills to address Pennsylvania’s opioid crisis, despite himself acknowledging the seriousness of the issue.

TX-23: It was a bad week for Pete Gallego. After losing out on the endorsements of two major newspaper endorsements, Gallego was caught touting the endorsement of a registered sex offender. Then, in a debate, Gallego was unable to name a single legislative accomplishment from his time in Congress (because he doesn’t have any).

WI-08: President Obama endorsed 30 Democrat House candidates this week, but notably left off the lengthy list was Tom Nelson. Obama’s snub came in the wake of a new poll showing Nelson trailing Republican Mike Gallagher by a double digit margin.
