The first debate in Minnesota’s 8th District between Stewart Mills and Rick Nolan is set to begin at 10:00 AM (Central), and will be streamed live by the Duluth News Tribune and The Uptake. We wanted to take the opportunity to offer a quick fact check on some of the extreme policies Rick Nolan is likely to run away from this morning.

  1. Rick Nolan wants to close GITMO and transfer the terrorists held there to U.S. soilNolan has consistently supported plans to close GITMO, including voting just last week against a temporary ban on prisoner transfers. After his latest vote, Nolan released a statement reiterating his support for transferring the terrorists held there to facilities in the United States.
  2. Rick Nolan supports the Iran nuclear dealNolan has been a steadfast supporter of President Obama’s Iran nuclear deal, even voting against a measure to ensure that funds from the deal did not go to terrorists. More on that HERE, HERE, and HERE.
  1. Rick Nolan votes to raise his own pay, while opposing pay raises for our troopsRick Nolan has repeatedly voted to increase his own pay, while at the same time, opposing pay raises for members of the armed forces.
  1. Rick Nolan supports Obamacare – As Minnesota families face double digit health insurance premium increases, Rick Nolan continues to support Obamacare, and even thinks it does not go far enough. Nolan has even openly mocked anyone who believed his party’s statement that the law did not cut Medicare. More on that HERE and HERE.
  1. Rick Nolan supports a carbon tax that would devastate Minnesota’s steel industry – Rick Nolan pretends to be a friend of the steel industry, but supports a job-killing carbon tax that would cost Minnesota thousands of good steel jobs. More on that HERE and HERE.
  1. Rick Nolan is a Super PAC hypocrite Nolan poses as an opponent of Super PACs, but stood silently as Nancy Pelosi’s Super PAC aired an ad on his behalf that was so dishonest, it was pulled from the air by a Twin Cities TV station.
